Overview
FitZ is a habit and health tracking mobile app built for urban students and working professionals who are fatigued by guilt-driven fitness culture. Instead of punishing missed days, FitZ focuses on streaks, lightweight nutrition logging, barcode food scanning, and habit building that fits into real life — not an idealised gym routine.
The Challenge
Most fitness apps are built for people who are already disciplined. FitZ needed to work for everyone else — people with irregular schedules, limited time, and no desire to be lectured about their choices. The challenge was building something genuinely useful without the moralising tone that drives most people away from health apps within a week.
The Solution
We built FitZ on Expo and React Native with a NestJS backend on Railway. The food database covers 1,067 items across 19 categories with barcode lookup via Open Food Facts API. Streaks reward consistency without punishing breaks — a missed day doesn't reset everything. Premium features are gated behind rewarded video ads and referrals, keeping the app free for most users. Available on Google Play; iOS pending App Store review.

Product Design
Designed the full UI around a clean green-and-white system — #22C55E primary, white cards, #F8FAFC background. Every screen optimised for one-handed use during a commute or between meetings.
Food Database
Built and curated a database of 1,067 foods across 19 categories — from Indian staples to packaged products. Barcode scanning via Open Food Facts API covers international products automatically.
Development
Expo SDK 54, React Native 0.81.6, NestJS backend, PostgreSQL on Railway. EAS builds for both platforms. Streak system, weight tracking, calorie targets, habit modules, and referral engine all built in.
Launch
Live on Google Play. iOS build submitted to App Store — full Premium UI guarded behind Platform.OS checks to comply with App Store guidelines. Ongoing feature sprints based on early user feedback.
